First comes an intense aroma of cracked black pepper, mingling with sappy pine resin and sharp tang of smoke. Suddenly, the explosive mouthfeel burst forth with chocolate, creosote and tar. Savoury meats sink into the palate, before the long salty mouth coating finish slinks away.
At just 5 years old, the legendary smokiness of Ardbeg is untamed by age, revealing the inner beast of this Islay icon.
Aroma:
Very bright, fresh herbal notes, with subtle hints of vanilla and pear. Rich Turkish coffee merges with sappy pine resin, with honey-glazed ham stewing in the background.
Taste:
A rich mouthfeel, feelings of oily chocolate, creosote and heavy smoke. Eucalyptus with strong mouth feel of aniseed to follow. The raw, smoky intensity rapidly increases, before smoked, charred back bacon and a meatiness emerge.
Finish: The long, salty mouthcoating finish weakens, with hints of cocoa and fudge send you away into the night.
